Homemade White Bread
Homemade bread is a bit time consuming to make it is worth the wait. Bread was commonly made at home on weekends throughout the Caribbean where I grew up. It is also a big hit on Christmas morning. Many people ate it with ham and eggs but it tastes just as good with a slab of butter or jam. Enjoy!
Ingredients
1 pkg dry yeast
5 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
2 cups water
1/4 cup of olive oil
In a large bowl combine flour, yeast, salt, oil, and sugar. Then add warm water to mixture. Grease two 9x5 loaf pans. Knead dough and flour surface. Shape dough into two balls. Place dough in bowl and let rise in a warm place for approximately 45 minutes. Remove dough from dough and punch dough to remove air bubbles. Place dough into prepared pans let rise again for another 30-35 minutes. Then bake at 350° for approximately 30-40 minutes.
